A new multi-purpose, high quality dance space for young people in Chapeltown and Leeds is launched. The opening of RJC Dance newly refurbished, multi-purpose dance studio space was held on Wednesday 18th May 2016 at the Mandela Centre in Leeds.
Kathy Williams, Director RJC Dance said
‘After more than 14 years in the Mandela Centre, we now have a fantastic, multi-purpose, high quality space for our young people to work, rehearse and perform in. We know they will thrive in this professionally equipped space, thanks to the small capital grant from Arts Council England supported by Leeds City Council.’
Council Leader Judith Blake, who is opened the studio said
‘We are delighted to see RJC Dance thriving and occupying a space that reflects the talents and aspirations of young people in Chapeltown and across Leeds. RJC Dance has an unenviable reputation of nurturing talent, producing exhilarating dancers and being rooted in its local community’.
With £113,000 support for the refurbishment, Michelle Dixon Director of Touring and Leeds from Arts Council England said
‘Leeds has a very strong tradition of dance development, particularly black-led dance organisations like RJC Dance. We are sure this studio investment will enable it to work to the highest standards and provide a valuable resource for the city of Leeds’.
