RJC Dance Youth Provision members Shahck Out Youth Dance represented Yorkshire at this years' U.Dance National Festival in Liverpool, presented by One Dance UK and hosted at LIPA (Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts) and the Liverpool Playhouse.
The largest event of its kind, the U.Dance National Festival is a celebration of youth dance and brings together selected groups from around the country to perform on professional stages and take part in workshops with leading dance professionals.
13 members of Shahck Out Youth Dance participated in two full days of dance activities with an overnight stay in Liverpool. They took part in a joyful Ceilidh Dance Workshop with Mel Biggs, a fiery Street Dance workshop led by Alyx Steele, sprung in to action in an Aerial Bungee workshop led by Michaela Anders from Wired Aerial Theatre and blended tradition with culture in a energetic Bhangra workshop led by Jhanvee Patel in association with Yuva Gati Centre for Advanced Training.
Alongside meeting other youth dance groups from the length and breadth of the country, Shahck Out Youth Dance members also had the opportunity to find out about the various career paths within dance and talk with leading professionals working in the industry about their careers, including British choreographer and dance champion Sir Richard Alston (pictured).
Shahck Out Youth Dance closed the Sunday evening festival showcase with their high-energy, feel good performance of Soca Cheer, choreographed by Nillanthie Morton. To everyones delight they absolutely took the roof off the Liverpool Playhouse!
We are so proud of the positive attitude, dedication and maturity that Shahck Out Youth Dance members demonstrated throughout the festival. They REPRESENTED. For some of our members, this was the first time they had visited another city and stayed away from home. Shahck Out Youth Dance well done!
