Celebrate Mandela 2017

On Saturday 8 July 2017, in the presence of the Lord Mayor Elect Cllr Jane Dowson RJC Dance presented a family friendly ‘Celebrate Mandela’ performance extravaganza to a full house. The showcase included a variety of diverse artists presenting spoken word, music, art and dance, highlighting our connection to South Africa and the struggle for social justice.

Performers on the days were: Tyquan Lawrence, Shahck Out Saturday AM; Tila & Tavelah Robinson, Erika Laredo – Leeds Beckett University, Ansell Broderick, Shahck Out Juniors Saturday, Leeds Young Authors, Stella Listras & Caution Collective, Lisa Nkrumah-Mweu, Rob Green & Shahck Out Youth Dance.

The event was a great success with the Lord Mayor stating:

“The whole event was soul affirming and what a wonderful way to recognise the legacy of such a great man. I went away from the event with a spring in my step and knowing more than when I arrived”.
