Celebrate Mandela

Graffitti Mandela 2020 web 2

RJC Dance is proud to partner with Rhian Kempadoo-Millar in launching an extraordinary new art project that will celebrate the life of Nelson Mandela.

We are inviting 25 participants - individuals, groups or families - to create a unique piece of art that is inspired by Nelson Mandela. Whether his incarceration has been put into perspective through lockdown, or his unfailing commitment to equality has inspired you through recent weeks of protests against racial injustice, we are inviting you to express that connection in art. Do it on your own or as a household - anyone of any age is welcome to take part.

Thanks to funding from Arts Council England, we will post a special ‘creative art pack’ to each participant, group or family, containing art materials fabric and collage paper, as well as inspiration to use for your project.

You have until Saturday 18th July - Mandela’s Birthday - to complete your piece, which you will share alongside the other participants via Zoom.
This 'show and tell' will feature a guest panel of creative artists from the region from a range of disciplines. There will be a prize for the most creative and most powerful message.

After the preview, all of the pieces made will be displayed in an online gallery on the RJC Dance website and made into a digital banner to be displayed at RJC Dance studios.
